GDF SUEZ Canada and its joint venture (JV) partners Mitsui & Co. and Fiera Axium Infrastructure have announced the commercial operation of the 99MW Cape Scott wind power project worth CDN$325m ($296m).
BC Hydro had already signed a 20-year power purchase agreement for the project that can generate over 290GWh of clean, renewable energy per year, enough to power approximately 100,000 homes in the region.
Located on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada, the project had brought over 300 construction jobs, and 12 jobs to fill permanent operating and maintenance positions.
With the start of commercial operation of the Cape Scott wind project, GDF SUEZ Canada and its partners now currently operate wind power plants totaling 660MW in the Canadian Maritimes, Ontario, and British Columbia.
The Cape Scott wind power project, construction of which was started in 2011, is said to be the joint venture’s tenth wind installation in Canada.
GDF SUEZ Canada president Mike Crawley said the project would enable the company and its JV partners to strengthen their position in Canada.
