Global technology solutions provider Abengoa has secured a deal from Gamesa to manufacture and supply steel structures for a solar photovoltaic project in India.
As part of the newly announced deal, Abengoa will provide steel structures for a 40MW photovoltaics energy project that will be constructed by Gamesa on behalf of Indian company Atria Power.
Construction of the facility, located in Hiriyur, Karnataka, has already been started, with plan to complete the same by April this year.
According to Abengoa, the Hiriyur solar project is included in India’s renewable energy programme, which aims to increase the country’s installed solar energy capacity from the current 8GW to 100 by 2022.
Previously, Abengoa developed various projects in India in the fields of energy transmission and water including a 100,000m³ desalination plant in Chennai.
So far, the company has completed more than 2.3GW solar energy projects, which include both solar thermal and photovoltaic energy projects, across the globe.

By GlobalDataIn October last year, Gamesa signed a deal with Atria Power to build 130MW of solar power at two different locations – Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, in southern part of India.
The 40MW Hiriyur project is also included in the deal.
The other project, to be constructed under the deal between Games and Atria Power, will have 90MW capacity.
