US based photovoltaic manufacturer First Solar has been selected to supply its high performance photovoltaic (PV) modules to the 200MW second phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai.

First Solar’s PV modules claimed to offer predictable energy in all climates, and it also provides better temperature coefficient and improved spectral response.

The second phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park will include a utility scale solar plant which is expected to be completed in 2017.

After completion, the plant will produce enough energy for 30,000 homes in the region.

The project will include 2.36 million First Solar modules, and the plant will be built across 4.5million m2.

Previously, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) selected Saudi Arabia based consortium led by ACWA Power along with Spanish engineering and construction company TSK to develop, construct, own and operate the project.
