Independent energy company Tenaska Solar Ventures has awarded a contract to First Solar, a provider of photovoltaic (PV) solar systems, to design and build the 150MW AC Tenaska Imperial Solar Energy Center West project near El Centro, California, US.
Under the contract, First Solar will provide full engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services using its advanced thin film photovoltaic modules and single-axis tilt technology for the project.

The Tenaska Imperial Solar Energy Center West, the second solar project in Southern California’s Imperial Valley developed, owned and managed by Tenaska, is Located approximately 1,100 acres of previously disturbed land in Imperial County.
First Solar US Business Development managing director Roger Bredder said that the company is pleased to continue relationship with Tenaska.
"This project will provide up to 800 jobs in the Imperial Valley at construction peak, and make a significant economic contribution to the local community. It will also provide the residents of Southern California with a reliable source of clean, renewable energy," Bredder added.
First Solar, which has already begun engineering, is planning to commence construction of the project later in 2014 while the project is slated for full commercial operation in 2016.
