Ergon Energy Retail announced that it is seeking expressions of interest for the supply of 150 MW renewable energy projects in Queensland, Australia.

The company said that its retail business is looking to develop new renewable energy projects with organisations that will help meet Ergon’s Energy requirements.

The renewable energy sources including rooftop solar, presently contribute about 10% of the electricity into the company’s network across regional Queensland.

The company said that previously it received strong interest from renewable energy project developers in regional Queensland and it is presently asking developers to put forward these projects for consideration.

Ergon Energy is presently the largest purchaser of renewable energy that is being generated in Queensland through partnerships with wind generators, Queensland sugar mills, solar farms and hydro-electric generation projects.

The company said that it has been working with communities throughout regional Queensland to find out the development of renewable energy sources in order to help reduce greenhouse gas emission for many years.

The projects presently supported by Ergon include 400Kw Fraser Coast solar farm, 12MW Windy Hill wind farm and few hydro developments.

Ergon Energy is owned by the Government of Queensland which distributes electricity to about 700,000 customers across the state, excluding South East Queensland.

The government is planning to generate 50% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030.
