Enel Green Power (EGP) has started the construction of The Finis Terrae solar PV field in Chile and it provided updates of Latin America’s first geothermal plant in Cerro Pabell?n, Chile.

The two projects are a part of the long list of ‘renewable factories’ that the company has planned to complete in the country.

The Finis Terrae solar PV field will have a capacity of 160MW, which will be the largest in Chile, the farm is being constructed in a part that receives up to 2,380 hours of solar exposure and a radiation which is more than 400GWh per year.

The energy generated from the farm is expected to be enough to satisfy the energy needs of 198,000 Chilean families and reduce 198,000t of CO2 emissions per year.

As for the Cerro Pabell?n geothermal plant, the construction began earlier this month at 4,500m above sea level.

The plant is being built in collaboration with Empresa Nacional del Petróleo (ENAP), which is expected to help the energy company with plant construction and management.

Chile is estimated to have geothermal potential amounts to 3,600MW.

Apart from the two projects, EGP is also working on 97MW Carrera Pinto solar PV field, the 24MW Los Buenos Aires and 19MW Pampa Norte wind farms and the off-grid system at the Ollagüe village.
