US-based green fuels producer Cool Planet Energy Systems has started construction of its first commercial plant in Alexandria, Louisiana.

To be located at the Port of Alexandria, on the Red River Waterway in Central Louisiana, the facility dubbed Project Genesis will produce 10 million gallons of high-octane, renewable gasoline blendstocks annually and biochar from sustainable wood residues.

According to the company, the reason behind the selection of the site at Alexandria for the facility is the availability of wood biomass, interstate and rail access, as well as direct barge access to over nine refineries.

Cool Planet CEO Howard Janzen said the latest development is an important step forward in the company’s plan to commercialise its technology.

"We could not have picked a better location to build our first commercial facility and start transforming the nation’s fuel and food supplies," Janzen added.

The company claims that its technology turns biomass into green fuels and biochar and has the capability to be carbon negative.
