India-based power equipment manufacturer Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has secured an order worth INR3.21bn ($52m) from Punjab State Power (PSPCL) to supply hydro generating sets for the proposed 206MW Shahpurkandi hydro power project.
As per the deal, BHEL will design, manufacture, supply, install and commission hydro generating sets and related electro mechanical works.
For the project, the company will supply hydro generating sets manufactured at its unit located in Bhopal of Madhya Pradesh state.
The transformers and control & monitoring system will be supplied by the company’s Jhansi unit and electronics division in Bangalore of Karnataka state, respectively.
BHEL’s Power Sector – Northern Region will be responsible for the erection and commissioning of the equipment for the Shahpurkandi project.
The project will be constructed on the canal from Shahpurkandi Barrage to Madhopur headworks near Ranjit Sagar dam located in Gurdaspur district of Punjab.

By GlobalDataAccording to BHEL, the water released by the dam will be used for generating power from the project, which will have seven hydro generating sets.
The power house-I will have three sets of 33MW capacity each, while the power house-II will be equipped with three sets of 33MW capacity each and one set of 8MW capacity.
