Merkur Offshore, the owner of 400 MW Merkur Offshore wind farm in German North Sea has selected French energy group Alstom to supply 66 Alstom Haliade 150-6M offshore wind turbine.
The turbines will be installed by DEME at the farm, which is located 45km north of Borkum in the North Sea, which will be one of the biggest German wind farms.
According to Alstom, the farm has secured all the necessary permissions and has a received grid connection.
The construction of the German offshore project is expected to begin in 2016.
Alstom has also signed a long-term service and maintenance contract for the farm.
The turbine maker highlighted that Alstom Haliade 150-6MW direct drive wind turbine featuring 150m diameter rotor is designed for challenging offshore conditions.

By GlobalDataThe company also said that the turbines for the Merkur Offshore wind farm will be manufactured in the company’s new French facilities in Saint-Nazaire.
Alstom Renewable Power president Jérôme Pécresse said: "The Merkur Offshore contract is also the first offshore wind project led by Alstom in Germany, which is particularly important for our further business development in Germany and Northern Europe.
"We are very proud to support the energy transition in Germany with this major project."
