Alstom has secured a contract from Electricity of Vietnam to supply turbine to Thac Mo hydropower station extension in the country.

The €13m contract covers the design, manufacturing, testing, supply, erection and commissioning of electro-mechanical equipment consisting of one vertical Francis turbine of 75MW, generator, control systems and electrical balance-of-plant equipment.

This will provide with additional capacity to increase peak load capacity to support the existing 150MW Thac Mo power station, which already employs two 75 MW Francis type turbines.

Alstom Renewable Power president Jerome Pécresse said: "This project showcases our technological leadership in the hydro sector and reaffirms the confidence that our customers have in our ability to deliver world class products and solutions in different regions and geographies."

Alstom will manufacture the turbines and generators in its Vadodara facility in the Indian state of Gujarat, while electrical and mechanical balance-of-plant items will be supplied from various countries including Vietnam.

Earlier this month, Alstom agreed to repair and refurbish the existing generator at the 1x25MW Døvikfoss hydro power plant in Norway.
