Swiss power and automation technology group ABB has received an order to provide power infrastructure including substations for the 400MW Rampion Offshore Wind Farm in the UK.
The project is being constructed by German energy company E.ON and UK based Green Investment Bank (GIB).
ABB said that it would provide infrastructure to support the offshore platform and the onshore substation to help integrate the new wind farm into UK’s transmission grid.
The 116-turbine wind farm will be located off the Sussex coast between Worthing and Brighton.
After its scheduled completion in completion in 2018, the wind farm is expected to generate electricity for around 300,000 homes and will significantly reduce CO2 emissions by up to 600,000 tons a year.
ABB will also provide turnkey delivery of onshore substation including, gas-insulated switchgear (GIS), transformers and substation automation, air-insulated switchgear (AIS), along with control and protection systems to tie the development into the UK’s transmission grid.
