Coca-Cola HBC Bulgaria has signed a long-term physical power purchase agreement (PPA) with independent power producer Enery to procure renewable electricity from Enery’s Knizhovnik hybrid power plant.
The agreement will see Coca-Cola HBC Bulgaria receive locally generated renewable energy annually, based on a fixed solar generation profile.

The Knizhovnik facility, situated near Haskovo in southern Bulgaria, consists of a 122MW-peak (MWp) photovoltaic (PV) plant and two battery energy storage systems (BESS) with capacities of 70MW-hours (MWh) and 130MWh.
According to Enery, these elements together generate approximately 200GW-hours of renewable electricity each year, equivalent to the annual consumption of almost 50,000 homes.
This arrangement is the second corporate PPA linked to Enery’s Knizhovnik project.
The company said the project demonstrates how large-scale renewable installations that combine solar power and battery storage can meet the electricity needs of major industrial and commercial customers.
The deal is intended to support Coca-Cola HBC Bulgaria’s efforts to reduce emissions across its business activities and value chain, as part of its wider aim to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040.
Coca‑Cola HBC Bulgaria supply chain director Chavdar Chorbadzhiyski said: “Our Group’s NetZeroby2040 commitment requires action across every part of our business.
“By securing renewable electricity from a local source, we are reducing the carbon footprint of our operations and supporting the development of Bulgaria’s renewable energy sector. We are proud to partner with Enery on this important step in our decarbonisation journey.”
Enery said adding battery storage to the Knizhovnik plant provides the facility with greater flexibility, enabling more efficient management of renewable power generation. The system also supports the integration of solar energy into Bulgaria’s wider electricity grid.
Enery chief commercial officer Severin Vartigov said: “Coca-Cola HBC Bulgaria has demonstrated a strong leadership in reducing its operational footprint, and we are proud to support that journey with locally generated renewable electricity.”
In January 2026, Enery obtained more than $296m (€250m) in long-term financing to back renewable energy projects throughout central and eastern Europe.
