Germany-based Reverion has raised $175m (€154.07m) in a Series B funding round to expand the production of its power plants that generate dispatchable, carbon-negative electricity.

The company intends to use the majority of the funding to build a new production facility in Germany, with plans to scale its manufacturing capacity tenfold to 250MW per year.

The funding round was led by Kembara, a European scale-up fund focused on deep tech and climate technologies.

New investors include Allianz, Aurum Impact, KfW Capital and Carbon Equity, joining existing backers alfa8, the European Innovation Council Fund, Energy Impact Partners, Extantia, Possible Ventures and UVC Partners.

Reverion’s technology is designed to provide on-demand, zero-emission electricity by converting renewable gases into power while capturing pure biogenic carbon dioxide.

The company reports that its systems have achieved an electrical efficiency of 74.2% in live customer operation, which it claims is nearly double that of conventional generators.

Seven of its power plants are currently operating at customer sites, with further projects planned internationally later in the year.

The new mega-factory is expected to create up to 800 additional jobs as Reverion expands its workforce beyond its headquarters in Eresing near Munich.

According to the company, demand for its systems extends beyond biogas sites to sectors such as data centres, which are facing grid connection constraints and environmental challenges.

Reverion’s units can be run on local gas infrastructure to provide data centres with a continuous energy supply, mitigating risks from electricity price volatility and grid expansion delays.

Reverion CEO and co-founder Stephan Herrmann said: “By closing this Series B, we are laying the foundation for industrial mass production. We are building the dispatchable, carbon-negative engine that allows grids and heavy industry to run 100% clean, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

“The financing allows us to build an additional production site and to scale the product further, into the megawatt class. That opens up entirely new markets for Reverion.”

The commercial project pipeline for the company reportedly exceeds $2bn in potential revenue, with rapid growth anticipated both within Germany and in international markets.

Reverion, founded in 2022, produces container-based systems capable of generating electricity from biogas, natural gas or hydrogen, and also operating in electrolysis mode to convert surplus electricity into storable gases.
