The CPV solar power plant located in the Belpasso municipality in the Catania province in Sicily will generate 1.17MWp which will be transferred to the local grid.
The facility will be able to produce enough clean and reliable electricity to address the power needs of about 300 households every year and is expected to reduce over 125 tonnes of carbon-dioxide emissions annually.
Soitec Solar Energy division executive vice president Gaetan Borgers said the company is positioned with a cost-effective power generation technology at high levels of efficiency and is committed to developing this market in Italy.
"Completing this solar power plant marks a major milestone for Soitec in Italy while also demonstrating all of CPV’s advantages in this part of the world," Borgers said.

By GlobalData"This project has allowed us to show that CPV’s leading efficiency and ability to provide a steady, long-term energy supply without consuming excessive amounts of land and water make it exactly the right technology for Italy."
The CPV solar plant uses 74 CPV trackers manufactured by the company, each using 168 Concentrix CPV modules, and two central inverters of 500kW each to ensure reliable power distribution to the grid.
The CPV panels use multi-junction solar cells and dual-axis tracking systems that maintain an optimal angle to the sun.
Soitec fully owns and operates the solar plant and will supply the electricity produced from the facility to Enel, Italy’s power company.
Schneider Electric supplied the central-inverter technology for the plant while local Italian construction companies provided the engineering, procurement and construction services.
