American producer of cost-competitive, sustainable solar electricity Semprius is geared up to officially launch its first solar module production facility in Henderson, North Carolina soon.

Semprius will produce solar modules which it claims to be the first in the world to possess 33.9% conversion efficiency, highest ever recorded.

The modules generated by this facility are expected to be capable of converting more than one-third of the sun’s energy into power.

Semprius CEO Joe Carr said the official launch of this production unit will have significant implications for the future of renewable energy industry.

"It’s a major milestone for Semprius, and we’re very proud of our team and our public and private partners that have helped us bring it in on time and on budget," Carr said.

"With production ramped up, we will be able to effectively service our customers, including companies like Siemens and Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne".

Semprius has received $8m worth incentives from North Carolina and Vance County and raised nearly $40m funds from several equity investors such as ARCH Venture Partners, Illinois Ventures, Intersouth Partners, In-Q-Tel, Morgan Creek Capital Management and Siemens Venture Capital.

The company’s proprietary micro-transfer printing technology, which has been developed with the support of US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory, is claimed to enable the use of smallest ever solar cell to develop cost-effective modules.
