Diversified technology and services provider Metso has secured the contract to supply a biomass power plant for community-owned Värnamo Energi in Sweden.
The €17m biomass plant is scheduled to begin operations in 2014 and will provide combined heat and power production in Värnamo in Sweden.

As part of the contact, Metso will develop a complete power plant including installation, training and commissioning.
Designed for a capacity of 13.4MW thermal output and 3.6MW electrical output for district heating, the plant will utilize domestic forest residues such as bark and wood chips as fuel.
Värnamo Energi chairman Gunnar Crona noted that this is an important investment in Värnamo’s future and the environment.
"After this investment 100 % of the area’s district heating will be produced with biomass," added Crona.

Värnamo Energi CEO Göran Hansson reiterated Metso’s ability as a supplier.
"This is Värnamo Energi’s largest investment ever and with it we can ensure that our customers will continue to be supplied with heating at a competitive cost," Hansson added.
"Also, Värnamo community will get a modern, well-performing district heating production facility that will be able to fulfill its task for many years."
