The government of Tamil Nadu, India has selected Raasi Green Earth energy to develop a 100MW solar power plant in the state at an estimated cost of INR9.2bn ($167.9m).

Proposed to be located in the state’s Ramanathapuram district, the project will be established over an area of 500 acres in the Paramakudi taluk.

An official release by the government estimates that the project will be completion within a year.

The project is being developed under the state’s newly unveiled Solar Energy Policy 2012 – the first major project under the initiative.

The state aims to set up solar projects totalling a capacity of 3000MW by 2015 vide the public-private partnerships.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa assured total cooperation from the state government and said that the project would be a launch platform for more solar projects in the state.
