Tres Amigas and Broadview Energy have entered into an agreement to develop and construct wind power projects totaling 500MW in northeast New Mexico, US.

The projects will enable Broadview to provide wind electricity for the next 25 years to California starting by the end of 2015.

Once operational, the wind power projects will also be provided with additional services by Tres Amigas.

The agreement signed with Tres Amigas is integral to the viability of Broadview’s second phase wind project called Broadview Energy KW, which is located on approximately 39,000 acres north and east of the first phase, Brahms Wind project.

Besides, National Renewable Solutions (NRS) is the manager and developer for Broadview Energy’s 80,000 acre utility scale wind development project in Curry County, New Mexico, and Deaf Smith County, Texas.

NRS CEO Patrick Pelstring said that the company is working on buying the transmission path from New Mexico to California and this path will be used for the Broadview Energy KW project.

"By signing these agreements with Tres Amigas we now have all the necessary pieces in place to be able to deliver power into California on existing transmission lines," Pelstring added.

According to Tres Amigas, the cost of construction of New Mexico wind power projects is estimated to be around $1.2bn and over $550m for Broadview Energy KW project.

The Broadview Energy KW project will be equipped with over 200 GE wind turbines While Mortenson Construction will be the contractor for the project, which would create about 200 construction jobs and about 20 full-time jobs.

Electricity from the wind farm would be delivered over its interconnection with Tres Amigas by December 2015.
