Inox Wind, a part of India-based Inox Group of Companies, has placed a $15m order with US-based AMSC for wind turbine electrical control systems (ECS).

The majority of the order will be delivered by AMSC in fiscal 2015.

For AMSC, this is the seventh order from Inox Wind. The ECS to be supplied by AMSC are a high-performance suite of power electronics systems, which comprise wind turbine power converter cabinet, internal power supply and various controls.

These systems regulate power flows and voltage, monitor system performance, control the pitch of the wind turbine blades and the yaw of the turbines, thereby boosting efficiency.

Inox Wind Limited director Devansh Jain said: "Together with AMSC’s wind turbine design expertise and smart electrical control systems, Inox is delivering wind turbines with some of the highest availability, reliably and power in India."

AMSC president and CEO said: "The effects of this most recent order from Inox are to extend our existing backlog and provide us greater visibility into fiscal 2015 revenues.

"Inox continues to execute on its ambitious growth plan and its planned IPO later this year is expected to provide the capital needed to continue on its path of being a major player in the Indian wind market."

Currently, India has over 20GW of installed wind capacity. The country recently began offering tax incentive to boost generation of power from wind.

According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF), this incentive would result in further wind installations of 2.6GW in 2014, and expects this figure to grow steadily to 3.5 GW in 2016
