GE has introduced new membrane-based technology for wastewater treatment to generate renewable energy.
The technology combines anaerobic digestion technology with ZeeWeed 500 membranes to create anaerobic membrane bioreactor (AnMBR).

The new AnMBR offers lower costs, better performance and the ability to generate electricity and water for reuse from industrial wastewater.
GE claims that the new technology is an ideal solution for industrial wastewater with high biochemical oxygen demand and chemical oxygen demand concentrations that result in higher aerobic treatment operational expenses.
According to the company, the anaerobic technology provides a cost-effective solution for challenging wastewater with added benefit of reduced energy consumption.
