EDF Renewable Energy, the North American subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles, has commissioned a new wind farm, with around 50MW capacity in Roosevelt County, eastern New Mexico, US.

Equipped with 25 turbines, the new wind farm has the capacity to produce enough electricity to power 27,400 average New Mexico houses annually.

According to EDF Renewable, the electricity to be produced at the Milo wind farm is committed into the Real-Time market in the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) Regional Transmission Organisation (RTO).

The newly commissioned Milo wind farm is situated close to the company’s first facility in the state of New Mexico, the 250MW Roosevelt wind plant.

Along with Roosevelt wind farm, the company has commissioned another 150MW Slate Creek wind facility in Kansas.

The Roosevelt wind farm features 125 turbines, while the Slate Creek facility has 75 turbines.

Under a 20-year fixed price Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), Southwestern Public Service Company (SPS), a subsidiary of Xcel Energy, has agreed to buy electricity generated at Roosevelt.

Great Plains Energy, parent company of Midwestern utilities, Kansas City Power & Light and KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations, under a 20-year PPA, will buy power produced at Slate Creek.

To date, EDF Renewable Energy has installed 6.7GW of clean energy capacity across the US.

Recently, the company has purchased 50% stake in an Indian wind energy company, SITAC Wind Management and Development, in a bid to expand its presence in India’s onshore wind energy sector.

Following the acquisition, both EDF Renewable and SITAC are planning to install 142MW wind capacity by the end of this year.
