Madison Gas and Electric (MGE) has plans to build a 66MW wind farm at Saratoga in Howard County, Iowa.
Once operational, this will be the company's largest wind farm.
This wind farm will advance MGE's commitment to increase cleaner energy and further reduce carbon dioxide emissions under its Energy 2030 framework.
The new wind farm, spanning an area of around 10 square miles, will feature 33 wind turbines.
MGE chairman, president and chief executive officer Gary Wolter said: “This is an exciting opportunity for our customers and continues the progress we've made in reducing carbon emissions and increasing renewable energy.
“With recent advances in technology, this project represents a long-term, cost-effective strategy for MGE to continue to transition to cleaner energy sources.”

By GlobalDataConstruction work on the wind project is expected to commence in early next year.
Once operational, it will be able to generate enough power to supply electricity to about 47,000 US households by the end of the year.
The wind turbines to be installed at the Saratoga project site will be about 500ft tall, about 100ft higher than wind turbines at MGE's Top of Iowa wind farm that was developed in 2008.
