Dominion Energy has purchased two 5MW (AC) solar generating facilities and also intends to acquire two more solar farms totaling 10MW (AC) in the third quarter from subsidiaries of North Carolina-based Strata Solar.
In the states of North Carolina and Virginia, the firm's solar portfolio comprises over 600MW of capacity, owned by one of its subsidiaries. The firm also has over 500MW of solar capacity under contract by its electric utilities in these states.
Its solar arrays in these states can produce power sufficient for 275,000 homes and businesses.
Dominion Energy vice president for business development and merchant operations Keith Windle said: "With these acquisitions, Dominion Energy is well on its way to bringing into service more than 700 megawatts of solar energy in North Carolina and Virginia by the end of 2018.
"We will continue to develop and acquire clean energy projects that help customers meet their energy needs."

By GlobalDataThe firm intends to acquire the Clipperton and Pikeville projects, which are currently under construction in Sampson County and Wayne County. The two plants have about 5MW (AC) capacity each and are expected to be completed later in the third quarter.
Currently, agreements are in place to sell the offtake from the solar plants.
Dominion Energy has over 2,000MW of solar producing capacity in operation or under development in nine states. These assets are either company-owned or contracted by Dominion Energy utilities.
