Alliant Energy's Iowa energy company has finalised an agreement with Apex Clean Energy to construct Upland Prairie Wind Farm in 2018.
The 300MW wind power project is located in Clay and Dickinson counties of northwest Iowa.
Alliant Energy's Iowa energy company president Doug Kopp said: "We are bringing more clean and cost-competitive wind energy to our customers.
"If our second wind expansion project is approved, one third of our energy in Iowa will be from wind, starting in 2020."
Besides adding construction and other jobs, the project will bring tens of millions of dollars in additional property taxes to the local communities.

Alliant Energy secured approval last year to add up to 500MW of wind energy.
The company has sought approval for a similar expansion from the Iowa Utilities Board this year.
The combined projects will represent an investment of $1.8bn and add up to 1,000MW of new wind generation in Iowa.
The project will have 121 turbines and its annual energy output will be sufficient to power around 130,000 homes a year.
